WHAM! 10 Days in China To Get Worldwide Theatrical Release

WHAM! 10 Days In China, the new feature-length documentary produced by Supercollider, will be released in cinemas worldwide on 28 July, with tickets going on sale June 24th.

In 1985, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley made history when WHAM! became the first Western pop group to perform in China. Their two concerts in Beijing and Guangzhou introduced live Western pop to Chinese audiences and marked a turning point for the band.

Forty years later, WHAM! 10 Days In China revisits this historic moment through meticulously restored, newly digitised and never-before-seen archive footage, alongside interviews with those who experienced the tour firsthand.

Told through the perspectives of the band, their touring team and Chinese audiences encountering Western pop culture for the first time, the film offers a fresh perspective on China at a moment of transformation. It is the untold story of a singular moment when East met West, pop met politics and two young stars came of age on the world stage.

In another huge announcement the BBC has also shared that WHAM! 10 Days In China will receive its world exclusive terrestrial TV broadcast on BBC Two this summer.

The documentary will be accompanied by a night of WHAM! and George Michael programming on BBC Two and will also be celebrated on Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s, presented by Gary Davies.

The 90-minute film is directed by Mike Christie and produced by Alice Popplewell, in association with Sony Music Vision and Sony Music Entertainment UK. It is executive produced by Krista Wegener and Ian Sharpe for Sony Music Vision, and Tanya Shaw for Supercollider.

WHAM! 10 Days In China will be released in cinemas worldwide on 28 July, with tickets on sale from 24 June.
