WHAM! 10 Days In China Becomes A Press Phenomenon Ahead of Worldwide Cinema Release

With just days to go until its worldwide cinema release, WHAM! 10 Days In China has sparked a remarkable wave of coverage across television, radio, print and online.

Produced by Supercollider, the feature-length documentary has captured the attention of audiences and media on both sides of the Atlantic. The response reflects not only the enduring affection for George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, but the extraordinary story at the heart of the film.

Major print coverage has included extensive features in Daily Mail Weekend and the Irish Mail on Sunday, with further coverage across The Sun, Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Daily Star and Daily Record. Heat Magazine included the film among its unmissable recommendations, while Classic Pop Magazine explored the story in depth with its feature, China in Their Hands.

The film has also received significant broadcast attention. Andrew Ridgeley has appeared on BBC One’s The One Show and ITV’s Good Morning Britain, while radio coverage has included the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, BBC Radio London and interviews across numerous regional BBC stations. Magic Radio, Smooth Radio and U105 have also featured the documentary ahead of its release.

Online coverage has focused on the lasting cultural significance of WHAM!’s visit. BBC News explored how the concerts changed lives in China, while an Associated Press video examined what happened after the band’s historic performances. People described the tour as a life-changing cultural moment, while Andrew Ridgeley and director Mike Christie spoke to The Upcoming about the remarkable archive, the importance of the Chinese perspective and why revisiting the story felt like unfinished business.

The 90-minute documentary is directed by Mike Christie and produced by Alice Popplewell. It is made in association with Sony Music Vision and Sony Music Entertainment UK and executive produced by Krista Wegener and Ian Sharpe for Sony Music Vision, and Tanya Shaw for Supercollider.

WHAM! 10 Days In China will be released in cinemas worldwide on 28 July, with tickets on sale now. It will also receive its world exclusive terrestrial TV broadcast on BBC Two later this summer, accompanied by a night of WHAM! and George Michael programming and a celebration on Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s.
