Zinc Media Group Reports Highest Revenues For Ten Years

Leading factual content powerhouse Zinc Media Group has announced its best revenues for ten years, driven by substantial growth across all 12 of its businesses, according to its annual results for 2022 which are published today*. The successful results reflect the company’s significant investment in new businesses over the last three years.

The company’s financial statements for 2022 reflect a transformational year for the Group.  Overall revenues hit £30.1m.  Organic revenues were particularly strong, up 39% year on year, with the Group confirming a strong EBITDA profit performance of £0.7m during the second half of the year, along with the successful acquisition of The Edge Picture Company, announced in August.  Additional highlights of the past year include:

  • Zinc’s new businesses growing by 97% year on year, to nearly £9 million in the year (these new businesses launched since 2020 include: Red Sauce, Supercollider, Rex, Bumblebee Post and three new businesses in Zinc Communicate)
  • Zinc’s established businesses (Brook Lapping, Tern TV and ZC Publishing) growing 20% in the year
  • Revenues in the second half of the year increasing by 83% year-on-year to £19.2m
  • Approximately 80% of revenue being delivered from existing customers, up from 69% in 2021
  • Strong performance from The Edge, post acquisition, closing a record year

 

Creative highlights for 2022 include:

  • Highly-acclaimed documentaries that led the news agenda such as Putin vs The West, Tom Daley: Illegal To Be Me and Afghanistan: Getting out
  • Programming with new talent and from new buyers such as Space Jump for Red Bull, Naughty Tories for Channel 5, Martin Compston's Scottish Fling for BBC, Spooked Ireland for Really and Sunday Morning Live for the BBC

  • Rex’s first commission for the BBC - Get Your Eurovision On! - in which Scott Mills and Natalie Cassidy celebrate some of Eurovision’s biggest moments
  • Zinc signing a distribution partnership agreement with global content company BBC Studios, across all its labels, to help support the Group's international growth
  • Tern TV’s Dr Xand: Con or Cure, a ten-part health consumer series, which recently launched on BBC One
  • The huge international accolade for Zinc of Production Company Of The Year at New York Festivals TV And Film Awards 2023
