Zinc Media Group Appoints New Managing Director

UK factual powerhouse Zinc Media Group has confirmed the appointment of Tanya Shaw as Managing Director, Zinc Television. Shaw, latterly Managing Director of Shine TV, is an award-winning former factual Commissioning Editor and Executive Producer. At Zinc, she will be responsible for the company’s TV labels based in London and Manchester and accelerating growth of premium unscripted content, both domestically and globally, across the Group.

In her new role, Shaw will lead Zinc’s TV labels including: Blakeway, the home of high-quality specialist factual programmes focusing on history, archaeology, natural history, arts and music; Brook Lapping, the home of exceptional current affairs and investigations; Films of Record, the home of premium access documentaries; Red Sauce, the home of popular factual and formats from London and the Regions; and Supercollider, the home of ‘genre-blending’ content for TV and brands; and new labels as the Group expands into new factual genres in the next phase of its growth.

Shaw’s experience spans the full spectrum of factual programming, from popular factual and entertainment to specialist factual and high end documentaries. She was Managing Director of Shine TV for six years, a role in which she oversaw a variety of factual series, including the global hit MasterChef, MasterChef: The Professionals and Celebrity MasterChef. In addition, Shaw also helped grow the travelling brands Hunted and The Island with Bear Grylls into returning series. She came to Shine TV from her role as Commissioning Editor of Features and Formats at the BBC, where key commissions included The Great Interior Design Challenge, Mary Berry Cooks and Rick Stein’s India. At Channel 4, whilst Commissioning Editor, Specialist Factual, commissions included Alone in the Wild, Tsunami: Caught on Camera, Elephant: Life After Death, Four Rooms, The Food Hospital and Hippo: Wild Feast Live. As Creative Director, Silver River, she won multiple commissions including Bringing Up Baby and The Diets that Time Forgot. She has a wealth of production credits including series one of The Apprentice for which she won a BAFTA.

Shaw will report to CEO, Mark Browning.
