Leading factual producer Brook Lapping, part of Zinc Media Group, has confirmed global interest in 9/11: Life Under Attack, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the day that changed the modern world. Commissioned by ITV, France Televisions (French title 9/11: From the Ground Up), the HISTORY® Channel (US title 9/11: I Was There) and VPRO, this landmark feature documentary has attracted worldwide sales.
The range of deals, delivered by distribution partner BBC Studios, include: France, with its co-pro partner France Televisions (FTV); Germany (ZDF); Australia (ABC); Italy (Discovery); Denmark (DR); Spain (TVE and Telefonica); Belgium (VRT); New Zealand (TVNZ); Russia (BBC News Russian); Central and Eastern Europe (AMC) and Brazil (Globo Free to Air and Globoplay SVOD).
9/11: Life Under Attack (1 x 90 min) features previously unheard audio and images: the personal stories told by the people in New York that day who lived through the events and recorded them. Its narrative is driven exclusively by audio and footage from the day. Presented without any interviews, viewers hear new, compelling and profoundly moving in-the-moment accounts.
The feature-length documentary presents a unique and compelling account of 9/11 captured by ordinary people who chose to pick up their cameras and get close to the action that fateful day, weaving together the personal video diaries of a dozen people whose accounts provide a raw and unfiltered telling of events, capturing their confusion, comprehension, terror and relief. The film will air on ITV on 7th September at 9PM and the HISTORY® Channel on 11th September at 10PM ET/PT.
Greg Sanderson, Director, London Television, Zinc Media Group, says: “This programme will serve as an important record of one of the most historic days in modern history, captured by those who were in the thick of the chaos as it unfolded. We are therefore delighted it has received such strong interest internationally. Our thorough approach to exploring the minutiae of historical events means our programmes always find audiences throughout the world, particularly those keen for definitive and authoritative reflections on the moments in history which collectively shape our lives.”
Paul Dempsey, President Global Distribution, BBC Studios, adds: “There is global appetite for in-depth real world accounts, so it comes as no surprise that this compelling and unique portrayal of 9/11- a historical event that continues to shape the modern world 20 years on – has received significant international interest.”
